The 68th Annual AHA Conference is open for registration. It will be at the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel
Phoenix, Arizona on June 5-7, 2009

It is free to register if you are currently a student, otherwise it is $249.

It is a 3-day event filled with humanists, atheists and freethinkers from all over the US. In my experience this is my largest audience, as most of the people I do artwork for come from the furthest reaches of the internet, and in what I’ve seen, most of them are agnostic / atheist / what-have-you.

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Christian artwork. I was raised with Christian teachings even though I don’t now or didn’t ever believe any of it, I’ve always loved the artwork. It tells a story, and what is life without stories?

So back to the event, according to the website you can expect:

  • Breakout sessions on topics ranging from human rights and bioethics to religious reform and First Amendment liberties.
  • Training sessions for humanist chapter leaders and activists.
  • Afternoon and evening banquets honoring humanist awardees.
  • Book signings by celebrity authors.
  • Special activities for children and teenagers hosted by Camp Quest.
  • Exhibitors featuring EvolveFISH merchandise

And more!

A lot of that stuff sounds campy to me, but it will be interesting to get out in a group of people that has been my main audience for the past year. I don’t think I’ll find anyone who wants to pay me tens of thousands of dollars to paint the Virgin Marry nursing a baby Jesus, but maybe someone who wants me to paint the Virgin Marry nursing a half robot half goat machine of war!
