A few weeks ago I got my hands on a Sony Vaio laptop. Instead of using it for video games or to create office documents however, I decided it would be more fun to break it open for parts to paint on.

I got the LCD screen separated from the body, sanded it down and coated it in gesso. I had this fun thing to paint on but I wasn’t sure what I was going to paint on it.

A friend told me to paint the blue screen of death on it. I thought that was pretty funny but it wasn’t a challenge. I didn’t want to turn this expensive ‘canvas’ into a joke.

I was reading techcrunch a few days ago and came across this article about Microsoft tag. In the article Robin, the author, talks about QRCodes.

I did a little research into QRCodes and thought that this was the perfect image to paint on the LCD screen.

The LCD Screen has the hinges still attached. They will make swell mounting plates, and no need to frame it.

If you have an iphone you can download the barcode app for free. Take a picture of the painting and decode it and you will see the following quote from Albert Einstein:

“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” ~Albert Einstein

The song in the video is by z-trip. It is on his album “Shifting Gears” and is called “3rd gear“.
