I’ve really been wanting to draw more but in this economy if you don’t work late hours you probably won’t have a full time job for very long. One day I’ll invest in the right stock or find an abandoned suitcase of money behind a 7-11 dumpster, but until then I’ll just have to deal with it.
For the last 30 days I’ve been working on a goon art project. I just finished getting it all assembled, labeled and, well, built basically. I ordered a proof from one of those internet print shops this morning and I hope to have a hot printed physical copy in around 10 days.
I haven’t counted but I think there are around 50 artists who contributed. I got the idea from the guys who started a pretty cool website where you can get art projects funded called kickstarter. You can see their book project here. I have a page in the book but I’m not sure what the page number is. It doesn’t matter anyway you can’t buy anymore. I’ll get some pictures of it up when my copy arrives. I started a project on that site to do 100 “Choose Your Own Adventure” type drawings that have been popular lately. I think I set the amount for too high and tried for too many drawings, as the project didnt get enough funding. I may do another one but have the drawings sell for like $5 and only do 10 of them. We will see.
So anyway this fun little book project. With all the digital stuff that I do during the day it’s kind of satisfying to have something physical. Hopefully when the 1st book gets here the print quality is good. I’ve heard good things about blurb.com but I’ve heard some worrying things as well. I’ll know in a week.
In the meantime if you want to see the book you can download a small version here on my website:
The quality is a little higher than computer monitor resolution but not high enough to print yourself.
If you want a high resolution (300dpi) version to print yourself, you can download it here:
*Note on printing: this book isn’t standard paper size. It is actually 9.627″ x 8.25″, where standard US paper size is 8″ x 11″ (and your printer can’t print full bleed, or the ink all the way to the edges of the paper).
As soon as I get the book proof back and make sure the print quality is high enough, I’ll post a link to where you can order the finished product. No one is making money on the book, it is being sold by blurb.com for the cost of the book. My proof was $35 (on high quality silk based paper) and shipping is normally around $5. I paid more to get it sent overnight.
